DIY Tank Top Trends

Just about each and every one of District’s® fashion basics lends itself to customization, whether you screen print a logo or catchphrase, create your own unique design, or turn it into something totally new. Many of our DIY ideas revolve around our t shirts, but our tanks are also great for customization! Here are a few ways to turn our basic tank tops for men and women into some of the latest visual trends!

Cut Out

Cut outs are showing up in many different fashion items including tees, collared shirts, and dresses. Other than our Lace Tee, most of District’s® items have full coverage. However, it’s pretty easy to achieve this look with a little DIY. You can keep it simple by cutting small designs just below the neckline of some of our crewneck t shirts. As for tank tops, our Modal Blend Tank does not feature a racerback or t-back, so you can have some fun creating cut-out designs for a little extra surprise sexiness!

From chains to sequins to studs to beads, embellishments can be seen on a variety of fashion tops and dresses. Again, if you’re not a master crafter, worry not! There are plenty of easy ways to add shiny, sparkly details to any of your favorite District® tank tops. At most craft stores you should be able to find iron-ons, simple sews, and other quick-step processes that will instantly make your plain tank into one that will surely turn heads!

Lacy Overlay

If you have mad sewing skills, making and attaching a lace overlay to a standard tank top may seem like a cinch. But for those of us who are less skillful, this look can be achieved in a much simpler way. Choose one of District’s® tanks as a shell. We suggest one of our classic rib tanks, including the 1X1 Rib Spaghetti Strap Tank, 1X1 Rib Tank, 2X1 Rib Tank, and Ladies Mini Rib Racerback Tank. Layer a see-through lace tank in a matching color on top and voila! You have a trendy, laced overlay tank look to wear!

Color Blocking

District’s® Cotton Ringer Tank Top for men has several two-toned color options for the guys. Color blocking has blown up as a trend over the past few years and can be achieved at any level of fashion. Our ladies’ version of the Cotton Ringer Tank is the irresistibly floaty, Cotton Swing Tank that comes in some great color variations. To add a bit of color blocking, try using fabric paints or sprays. Even strips of different colored fabrics adorning your tank will help you create your own custom color blocking design!
